Sump Pump Installation

Are you experiencing serious flooding in your home or property? A sump pump installation may be required. Occasionally when traditional drainage systems are installed solo, like french drain or catch basin, they cannot resolve abnormal flooding. Instead, they need an additional landscape drainage system to pair with them. When both landscape drainage systems are working together, excess water will drain to the street, rather than remaining in your yard.

Typically, most residential homes only require a half-horsepower pump, which can pump 70 gallons per minute. This amount of power can be excessive for most households. Nevertheless, it is better to be on the safe side for abnormal flooding areas. Additionally, we can provide several other models with different horsepower, performance, and switch options. In other words, we can find the right sump pump to fit your specific needs.

How to Install a Sump Pump

Here at HLP, we use top-notch materials in every sump pump installation to ensure the maximum quality of your landscape drainage. For starters, the sump pump will sit inside a basin. The basin needs to be large so that the Sump Pump can fit inside. Depending on the drainage system needed, there will usually be at least two pipes connecting to the basin. Also, all PVC pipes are connected with PVC cement to prevent any leaks.

Furthermore, for the two pipes, the bottom one will be a 4-inch PVC that connects to the drainage system. The second pipe will be a 2-inch PVC that goes out of the Sump Pump. Attached to the 2-inch PVC will be two fittings: a check valve and a union joint. The purpose of the check valve is to make sure there is no backflow. In other words, the water will only flow in one direction. The union joint is a threaded assembly that connects to the end piece of a PVC. Its purpose is to disconnect the Sump Pump without having to cut into the piping. Thus, if a problem occurred with the Sump Pump, then it would be easily detachable for servicing. Lastly, the Sump Pump installation will need to receive power from an outlet; then, it will be ready to go.

How does a Sump Pump Work?

A common question about the sump pump is: how does it work and where does the water go? How it works is simple; first, all excess water will flow into the drainage system. Next, the drainage system will send the water into a catch basin drain, which the sump pump will sit in. Afterward, the pump will push out any water residing in the basin away from the property. Finally, with the proper drainage installed, your home will be free of flooding.

The sump pump is used for unusual flooding cases when a conventional drainage system is not possible. For instance, some homes do not have a proper slope that is needed to carry water out. This issue is due to the street being at a higher elevation than the affected area. Without a doubt, having too many obstacles to create a proficient slope to a drainage system is another reason installing a sump pump may be necessary.
